Yet Another Instance of Double Standard in Citizens’ Protection in a 17-year-old’s Murder
common displeasure at the way local Law Enforcement has handled the case in apparent wanton disregard for the humanity of Trayvon. Zimmerman was not arrested, he was not evaluated for any kind of incapacitation, and was allowed to go home with his gun that same night. A toxicology test was allegedly done on the body of Trayvon.
An interesting observation is the speed with which Zimmerman’s dad, a retired judge, announced that his son is Hispanic as his mom (not white like him as was being reported.) This has got to be an unprecedented effort to distance oneself from the privileges of being white.
Zimmerman’s defenders now include Joe Oliver, whose “claim to Black” is apparently seen as invaluable at this juncture.
Momentously, the President stated the obvious in pointing out, “if I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.” That needed to be said and will hopefully make the impact that the reactions to the January 1997 killing of Ennis Cosby didn’t make.

In the evening of February 26, 2012, 28-year-old 250-pound George Zimmerman shot
and killed skinny 17-year-old Trayvon Martin who, as far as the former was concerned,
looked suspicious. Both lived in Florida, a state with the Stand-Your-Ground law
which has been responsible for a rise in needless homicide since it went on the books
in 2005.
